Lisbon by Night: Nightlife, Bars and Entertainment in the City

Lisbon's nightlife offers something for everyone, from sophisticated bars and rooftops with amazing views to pubs, classic nightclubs, LGBT+ clubs and fado nights. The city has attractions all over the place, but the central region concentrates most of them, making it easy to get from one place to another on foot.

In Bairro Alto, one of the capital's most bohemian strongholds, the street is the center of attention. The bars are concentrated side by side, and the public is also spread out along the cobbled streets. There are bars with tables on the sidewalks, restaurants and fado houses, such as the authentic Tasca do Chico, a classic destination in Lisbon's nightlife.

However, the Bairro Alto establishments close at around 2am. To continue having fun into the early hours, Cais do Sodré is the ideal place, especially near Rua Rosa, where several bars are concentrated, such as Dahlia (wines), A Tabacaria (drinks), Copa (cachaça) and Cinco Lounge (drinks).

To extend the night, some of the most famous nightclubs in Cais do Sodré are Pensão Amor, the nostalgic Tokyo (for lovers of 80s music) and Musicbox Lisboa, which usually keeps the crowd going until the early hours of the morning. Three other trendy clubs in the area are the Ministerium Club, Incógnito and Lounge. A little further away from Cais do Sodré, but with the same atmosphere, is the famous Lux Frágil, which always has an extensive schedule of shows and parties.

In Príncipe Real, one of Lisbon's coolest neighborhoods, there are a variety of bars, many with drinks and elaborate menus. In Embaixada, a gallery full of concept stores housed in a palace, Gin Lovers stands out. In the same neighborhood, you'll find the renowned Pavilhão Chinês, a mix of bar and museum, Lost In, with a good view of the city, and Snob, an old-school classic offering good stews and drinks.

Alfama, famous for its fado nights and terraces with beautiful views of the city, is not to be missed. To listen to good Portuguese music, there are Tasca do Chico, Parreirinha de Alfama and Clube do Fado. To relax and enjoy the sights of Lisbon, Chapitô is a great choice, being a mix of theater school, restaurant and bar.

Not far from Alfama, heading uphill, you'll find the Graça neighborhood, with its relaxed and fun nights out. To enjoy the outdoors with friends, Botequim is a great option, always with cold beer and good snacks. Two other good options in this part of the city are Casa Independente, which has a bar (Andar de Cima) with a terrace and good drinks, and Damas, which serves spectacular food and usually offers nightly programming, pleasing those who enjoy the more alternative scene.

Finally, we can't fail to mention the many terrace bars in Lisbon. The city is full of hills with beautiful views, and there's nothing better than taking in the scenery from above while enjoying a good drink. These bars are scattered all over the city, but we'd like to highlight a few: Ferroviário, Park, Topo Martim Moniz, Rossio Gastrobar and BAHR. Have fun!

Bairro Alto's nightlife is one of the liveliest and most traditional in Lisbon. And one of the most famous places in the area, not only for the atmosphere, but also for the fado performances.
